"Tyst Teater - Silent Theatre", which is a part of Riksteatern
in Sweden, has been creating performances for hearing and hard-of-hearing
since 1977. Both deaf and hearing actors have participated in the plays.
The themes of these plays have been the encounters between deaf and hearing
impaired in society, and the purpose has also been to translate classical
theater plays into sign language productions..
In order to create new material for future theater productions, the theater
developing group has decided to collect authentic material from deaf and
hearing impaired themselves. The aim is that documentary stories will
be collected and analyzed from both a scientific and artistic perspective.
The result of this will be both a scientific publication and a grand theater
production setup with hearing and deaf actors, which will tour the country
in the fall of the year 2000. Thus, the project is multi-disciplinary
with participants from Silent Theatre/Riksteatern, the folklore department
of Nordiska museet, SDR, HRF, VIS, and Department of Audiology, Karolinska
Institute in Stockholm, Sweden.
The anecdotes will be collected in many ways, among others through this
Internet questionnaire, which is also available in Swedish. There are
plans that collected material will be archived for the future at the folklore
department of Nordiska museet. Please inform others, deaf, hearing impaired,
and their relatives, that their participation would be greatly appreciated.
Your anecdote
Try to describe situations, encounters and events, your thoughts and feelings,
what You think others feel and think in specific situations, and so on.
Please inform other deaf that we would like to have their anecdotes and
experiences as well, and that we would like to receive their anecdotes
either through Internet or by mail at addresses below. We also appreciate
stories by relatives to deaf, for example from hearing parents of deaf
children, or a hearing spouse, and so on. You will be absolutely anonymous,
and any information that can make identification possible will be strictly
removed before publication and theater production setup.
Thank you very much for your participation!
